Unfamiliar with laser teeth whitening? Here are some frequently
asked questions:
Q. How long does this process take?
A. A single session is
15 minutes. We offer discounts on two 15-minute treatments for every customer.
Double sessions can drastically improve your results! The entire office visit
for a two sessions takes about 45 minutes. And we guarantee results!
Q. What are the expected results?
A. Results can vary, but virtually
everyone experiences great results. The grade of your teeth and your age
can affect the process however most people experience 4-8 shades whiter teeth in
a single session. The results vary because your teeth can only be whitened to
their natural color. We will use a tooth shade guide so all customers can see
the before and after results.
Q. How long will the results last?
A. It depends greatly on lifestyle.
If you drink coffee, tea, red wine, and soda on a daily basis your
results may not last as long as someone who only drinks water. Tobacco users
will have great results but will have to repeat the procedure more often than
non-tobacco users.
Q. Is the teeth whitening system safe?
A. Research has shown that if the
teeth and gums are normal and healthy there are no adverse effects to
whitening one’s teeth.
Q. Which teeth bleaching gel works the best?
We feel that for fast and safe
light-assisted chair side power bleaching, hydrogen peroxide works best. Chair
side teeth bleaching is fast because the light accelerates the process and
hydrogen peroxide doesn’t need extra time to break down from a buffered form,
like carbamide peroxide must do before it can release the oxygen to bleach the
teeth.
Q. Who may benefit from the teeth whitening system?
A. Almost everyone can enjoy the
benefit of the professional whitening process if his or her teeth
and gums are healthy. Remember, teeth cannot be made whiter than genetically
possible. Tetracycline stains are very difficult to hide. Children under the
age of 16 should not have their teeth cosmetically whitened.
Q. Does the whitening process cause damage to teeth enamel?
A. No, research has shown that bleaching your teeth with
peroxide-based gels does not harm the enamel of the teeth. This type of
bleaching has been done for over twenty years, even with stronger whitening
gels than what we use, and no damage to enamel has occurred.
Q. Who should NOT get their teeth whitened?
A. Pregnant or lactating women,
individuals under the age of 16 under any circumstance, individuals under the
age of 18 without parental consent, individuals with type II diabetes, with gum
disease, open cavities, leaking fillings, or other dental conditions, or
individuals with a known allergy to peroxide.
Q. I have crowns (caps) or veneers (bonding) on my front teeth.
What will this process do to them?
A. Cosmetic teeth whitening
will not change any of these restoration’s intrinsic (inside) color, however,
it may slightly remove some extrinsic (outside) stains. The procedure will not
harm dental restorations. If one’s natural teeth are yellower than the restored
teeth, then whitening may bring the natural teeth closer in shade to the
restored teeth. If the restored teeth are yellower in color, then bleaching
will only make the difference in shade greater between them and their naturally
colored counterparts. In this case, one may want to bleach their teeth first,
then have the restorations redone by their dentist to match the newly bleached
color. This, however, can lead to expensive and extensive dental work, so
again, consult a dentist first.
Q. Is the gel and peroxide in your product the same as that from
my dentist?
A. Yes. The only difference is the concentration level. Most
dentists use a higher concentration level of hydrogen peroxide. This high
concentration of HP causes extreme sensitivity to the gums, thus the
reason dentists typically apply a numbing agent to the gums. Our teeth
whitening system uses a lower concentration of HP that yields great results
without the sensitivity.
Q. Is this procedure done by a dentist?
A. No, this is a cosmetic process and the whitening product is
applied by the customer. At a dentist office, typically the procedure is not
performed by a dentist but by a dental assistant.
Q. Don’t you have to be a dentist to whiten teeth?
A. No, the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) have approved the use of peroxide for
over-the-counter use. Our customers perform the teeth whitening (sometimes
called teeth bleaching) procedure on themselves in our comfortable, relaxed
setting. Since our products are all self-administered, either by the chair side
method or by our take home products, it is no different procedurally from what
they can perform on their own. We are there to guide our customers and verbally
assist them during the chair side procedure, but we never touch their mouths or
teeth, we never give dental advice, and we never represent ourselves as
dentists. We do recommend that our customers visit their dentist regularly.
